The current version of Freeland is the plucky woman who was fired on a Zoom call by a man. A woman of integrity who then sent off a stinging letter of resignation in which she revealed she was being pushed aside for a Trudeau buddy Mark Carney. A fiscal warrior who resisted going $60B in the red (she was cool at $40B, however). And, BTW, could she please deliver the government’s financial statement before she’s fired?

Anonymous people spent lifetimes toiling on Nôtre Dame without ever witnessing the completion of their work. And still the master masons, draughtsmen and carpenters saw through their commitment. They worshipped the idea of a Gothic world reaching into the sky to be closer to God. While people perished from war, famine and plague over the centuries, there was money and energy still found to complete this astonishing church.

Donald Trump’s call to reject those who’d prospered in Covid found willing ears in the United States. His resounding sweep in the 2024 elections— every state in the union moved rightward in voting—  was the final rebuke to those who preached certainty. The same people who sloughed off not one, but two assassination attempts on a presidential candidate as mere distractions.

It can be safely said that the 2024 U.S. presidential election couldn’t have gone much worse for legacy media in that country. Their biases, conceits and outright falsehoods throughout the arduous years-long slog toward Nov. 5 were exposed that night. Now they face irrelevance.

Like America’s ruling class before the 2024 election, Canada’s brahmins are blithely unaware they are being fitted for a rope in 2025. Confident they know best, they issue columns that declare that the public sometimes gets it wrong in elections. They faint in the face of Elon Musk making X into a dominant  political force. They assume the public is still listening.

Charles De Gaulle famously asked, “How can you govern a nation with 538 different cheeses?” America is about to find out that, in the new media era, covering an election may involve 538 different media sources producing disparate information. With Elon Musk as the ring leader.

It’s telling that, while at least 50 percent of Americans see through Kamala Harris and the DEMs coup narrative as complete bushwah, probably 90 percent of Canadians-- led by the corporate media-- lap up these condescending narratives. Their biggest fear remains that the populist revolt against authority in the U.S. might threaten Canada’s elite class.

From worshipful respect, Elon Musk is now met with scorn, derision and, in Europe, plans to censor him permanently. Brazil shut down X completely. British intelligence targeted his association with Trump. The radical Left in the U.S., accustomed to its version of truth, suddenly decided that Musk was in line with Nazis and the Far Right. It’s a bracing assault.

Barack Obama borrowed from MLK Jr. when he said, “The arc of of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice”. Trudeau realizes that he’s been in charge for a long time, but dreams that, if hangs on long enough, justice will one day declare him the new man, unburdened by his record. Good luck with that. 

While French-language Radio Canada might still have a cultural argument in Quebec to make for its continued existence, no such imperative faces English CBC services anymore. The private production side and the digital world are perfectly capable of finding the next Schitt’s Creek or Pottery Challenge without air cover from the feds. So the Libs survival strategy now is attack, attack, attack.

But a deep dive into those jobs extolled by the PM shows an explosion of new positions, not in public works or the military, but in the vanity areas of DEI, gender equality and climate change. 

What was definitive about Tuesday is that the DC Media Party is again in the tank. The son of the President of the United States of America had just pled guilty to tax evasion for bribes he received from foreign adversaries in exchange for selling access to his father, the vice president at the time. This should have been the first, last and every question from ABC’s Mod Squad. Nope, let’s talk about Trump's long-dead father. 

What most people in the West agree on is that Vlad Putin is a bad dude. So bad that both sides of the divide insist their opponent is in the pocket of the man in the Kremlin. The federal Liberal party has absconded to Halifax this past week for what they’re describing as a policy retreat. This should be good news for Canadians who want Justin Trudeau’s midwits to retreat from many of the policies they’ve adopted since 2015. But I suspect they mean something different. As always.
