MLK Day: The Holiday That Celebrates WOKE Self Satisfaction
For those keeping score at home, Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States. A national holiday. To a large segment of the American population it is a day to celebrate the beliefs of equality preached by the assassinated civil rights leader.
That segment of the population is largely white. MLK’s dream of no colour has been left in the ditch by Colin Kaepernick’s black militancy. King’s message in I Have A Dream now resonates largely for white Democrats and CNN talking heads . King famously preached, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
Good luck with that in a #BLM symposium on Kaepernick that believes colour is the only thing that matters. Critical Race Theory doesn’t want equal anything from whites. It wants a separate status. Why do you think Nancy Pelosi went into shock before the election when Trump’s polling with blacks spiked?
But Woke whites haven’t clued in that their tender ministrations are not appreciated. Writes Jason Whitlock, a black writer with Outback, “That’s why liberals promote excuses for any black failure and disavow any excuse for white failure. If you can control a group’s expectations, you can control their level of success. A generation of black people have had their expectations diminished by Critical Race Theory. It’s a mental slavery, a Jim Crow for the mind.”
Whitlock’s stinging rebuke is why the Hillary Clinton crowd freaks when film maker Spike Lee castigates the gentrification of historically black neighbourhoods in Brooklyn. “Doesn’t Spike know how grateful he should be to us?” It’s why liberals like Chuck Schumer are perplexed when they ask black people what they want from whites, and the answer is, “Go back to the world you built for yourselves, and leave us alone.”
In the ascendency of Critical Race Theory, white racial sensitivity is just a Boy Scout badge for eager Woke progressives. How much you loved MLK is great fodder at a cocktail party in a gated community. The transformation to blackness by Rachel Dolezal, the white woman who lived her “reality” as an NAACP official, is the white liberals’ wet dream for the struggle.
These fossils do not get it that progressive blacks want nothing to do with their Hand Out/ Hand Up remnant of the LBJ’s Great Society. BLM recognizes the racial hustle in Joe Biden Land (perhaps why Trump increased his vote with blacks and Latinos in 2020) and seeks to exploit it. They know venerable black congressman James Clyburn sealed the deal that made Biden president. They know their power.
If you’ve watched pro sports the past 18 months you’ll know that BLM has succeeded in selling I Have A Grievance, not MLK’s “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” The NFL, NBA, MLB and other leagues are suddenly falling over themselves in begging absolution for events from as far back as 150 years ago.
If they were handing out holidays to celebrate the current African-American consciousness it would be Malcolm X Day, not MLK. Malcolm was the jaded realism to King’s lofty optimism espoused by the DNC. When you immerse yourself in the toxicity of Critical Race Theory you are not hearing MLK. These are the words of Malcolm X and perhaps Louis Farrakhan. And, sadly, they are winning the debate in the black community.
But don’t ask MSNBC or CNN to diverge from their 1960s version of racial justice. As Whitlock observes, “Conservative Construction does not run academia, the mainstream media, the music industry or Hollywood. For the last 60 years, Liberal Construction has run all of those industries, and those industries are at the forefront of brainwashing black people into believing we should spend every waking hour looking for excuses and examples of offensive verbal interaction with white people.”
Thus we see a culture in which liberal media treat 13 unarmed backs shot by cops (of all races) in 2019 as a greater social problem than 95 percent of the 7,484 blacks being murdered in the same year by other blacks. The latter doesn’t warrant even a sentence on CNN or in the Washington Post. More important to stay inside the guardrails of established orthodoxy.
Hence the invasion of the Capitol was transformed from conservative protest to racial riot “The liberal-run institution of journalism does not allow probing of real problems facing black people,” says Whitlock. ”That is prohibited. It might lead to actual solutions. It might provoke black people to wake up every day looking for solutions rather than excuses and meaningless verbal offenses.”
If MLK were still alive he might point out that the narratives put out by mainstream media—“The Colin Kaepernick Kneeling Trojan Horse” — are not in keeping with I Have A Dream. He might even say it’s a repudiation of everything he stood for.
But he wouldn’t be given airtime on MSNBC or an OpEd in USA Today to explain. Because neither white liberals nor BLM want anything to distract from their Critical Race Theory narrative. That is their version of “I Have A Dream”.
